What to pack for Uzbekistan: a packing list by season (2026)

Pack light but think about three things: cash in clean dollar notes, clothes that cover shoulders and knees for mosques, and protection from the sun or the cold depending on the season.

Documents and money

  • Passport valid at least six months from arrival; check if you need a visa: visa and registration.
  • Clean, recent US dollar notes to exchange; torn or very old notes are often refused.
  • Two bank cards (Visa works best) and some som in small notes. See money in Uzbekistan.
  • Printed or offline copies of bookings and train tickets.

Clothes

  • Light long trousers or a long skirt and tops that cover the shoulders for mosques and mausoleums; a scarf for women. Details: what to wear.
  • Comfortable shoes for cobbles and stairs, easy to take off: you remove them in mosques and homes.
  • One smarter outfit for dinner or a wedding invitation.

Electronics

  • Sockets are type C and F (European two-pin), 220 V.
  • Power bank: maps, translation and photos drain the phone fast.
  • A local SIM for a few dollars: SIM card guide.

Health and small things

  • Personal medicines, something for the stomach, plasters for long walks.
  • Wet wipes and tissues: not every public toilet has paper.
  • A small bag for bazaar shopping and room for souvenirs: what to buy.
