Most visitors need no visa at all, and hotels do the registration for you. The details that trip people up are passport validity, private-home stays and rules that change.

Who needs a visa

TravellerStay without a visa
Most of Europe, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Singapore and 60+ other nationalitiesup to 30 days
US citizens (from 2026)up to 30 days
Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armeniaup to 90 days
Kyrgyzstanup to 60 days
About 70 other countries, for example India, China, Thailande-visa, $20

The lists change, so check your nationality on the official visa portal before you book. Treat the table as a guide, not as legal advice.

The e-visa

The e-visa costs $20 and is usually issued in a couple of days. It can be single, double or multiple entry; total validity is 90 days from the application date, with up to 30 days per entry. Print the confirmation. If the online system is down, you apply at an Uzbek embassy, where you must give fixed entry and exit dates.

Passport and entry

Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the day you arrive. Check this first, because it is the most common reason for last-minute trouble.

Registration

  • Hotels, hostels and guesthouses register you automatically. Ask for the paper receipt and keep it until you leave.
  • Private flats, tents or campervans: you should be registered at least every three days through the Emehmon system. A local host normally has to help, and the daily fee is small, but payment can require an Uzbek bank card.
  • A simple workaround many travellers use is to sleep in a registered hotel at least every three days.

Parliament approved in first reading in July 2026 a draft law on registration that increases liability for hosts who fail to enter guests into Emehmon. It does not change what a tourist in a hotel needs to do, but keep your receipts.
